April showers bring May flowers

I know since we're fast approaching the end of May Spring is all but over, but the weather's still got that Spring freshness to it and Savannah's still in full bloom which helps me pretend the season will go on for a bit longer. The in-between seasons (fall and spring) are my favorite, and something about seeing all the flowers of spring makes me want to draw. I almost wish I pursued watercolors more just so I can go to the park and do some color sketches more. It's not the same with a laptop and wacom...

Lovely Day

It was sunny for the first time in ever yesterday, so I took the opportunity to go downtown for a quick advising appointment and wander around to check out the cute antique stores, etc. It's been a while since I last wandered around on my own so it was really refreshing. I was concerned at my lack of spending money, however, since I wanted everything I saw :(

I went to Panera to have some lunch, and decided to do a little sketching. My caricatures still need work, obviously:



All in all, it was a lovely day :)

Princess

I don't think I ever got over the fact that I'm not a princess.

Desserts

I've been wanting to use my blog as a place to keep note of all the little things that inspire me (read: things I like): cupcakes, pink, lace, ribbons, dresses, fairytales, all sorts of things. It's always hard to explain how these things work their way into my drawings, but I think it'll be a fun exercise for me to write them down. So for organization's sake, I'll be starting a series of posts called "Sara Loves" in which I'll describe my current obsession.

And what better personal obsession to start off with than desserts? I'm such a sucker for sweet things, and nothing gets me more excited than a beautiful batch of cupcakes and little desserts. They're so small and colorful, like little edible decorations... <3










If only there were a way I can eat them and keep them to look at, too...

Updates!

I'm just about 4/5 of the way done with my Marie Antoinette film. It's no work of animated art, but I think it went relatively well. Of course I'll post it when it's done, but until then, here's a little teaser:

Art Direction

A piece I had to do for class. We're supposed to be developing a "look" to our senior film, and this is roundabout what I'm going for. I'm thinking of punching up the colors for the backgrounds, and maybe pushing the painted look too. I can't say that I'm proud of this, but for having been completed in 2 days I'd say it's not bad :3
